Hydrogenics' Fuel Cell APU Used in GM Vehicle

January 12, 2003 by Jeff Shepard

Hydrogenics Corp. (Mississauga, Ontario, Canada) announced that it has provided General Motors Corp. (Detroit, MI) and the US Army with a fuel cell auxiliary power unit (APU) for a diesel-hybrid military pickup truck. A demonstration of the truck took place at the GM Technical Center in Warren, MI. The diesel-hybrid truck could become the model for the Army's new fleet of 30,000 light tactical vehicles by the end of the decade.

Built on a Chevy Silverado crew cab frame, the diesel hybrid improves Army fuel consumption by 20 percent, reduces emissions and provides troops with electrical power.
