Vibration-Proof Hybrid Capacitors

November 02, 2016 by Jeff Shepard

Panasonic announced the EEH-ZA and EEH-ZC series hybrid surface-mount aluminum electrolytic capacitors now available in new vibration-proof parts. These two Hybrid Capacitor Series take the benefits of both electrolytic and polymer capacitor technologies and combine them, producing a capacitor with low ESR, low leakage current, high ripple current and smaller case sizes. These combined benefits save valuable board space, enhance overall board performance and lower design costs.

These rugged capacitors are expected to find application in dc-dc converters (especially for the input capacitor), ac-dc switching power supplies, vehicle control modules, smart meters, and so on. Target industries/market segments include industrial equipment, automotive designs and alternative energy systems.

Features include: Operating voltage range of 25- to 63-Vdc; Rated capacitance range of 10μF to 330μF; Operating temperature ranges for ZA Series -55 to +105 degrees C and for the ZC Series -55 to +125 degrees C; Case sizes from 5x5.8 to 10x10.2; Endurance for the ZA Series is up to 5,000 Hours at 105 degrees C and for the ZC Series it is to 4,000 Hours at 125 degrees C; Failure mode is open circuit.

Benefits of these vibration-proof hybrid surface-mount aluminum electrolytic capacitors includes: Low ESR values from 20mΩ to 120mΩ; Low leakage current of 0.01CV or 3μA; Longer endurance than current SMD products; Downsizing and weight reduction; and use of these devices can open up valuable board space.
