Pulse Presents SMT High-Current Planar Inductors

March 31, 2002 by Jeff Shepard

Pulse Engineering Inc. (San Diego, CA) introduced a new series of inductors for dc/dc power supplies that offer the lowest direct current resistance ratings in the industry, according to the company. Applications include power systems for telecommunications, industrial control systems, and automotive and heavy-equipment vehicle systems where high-package density and high-energy efficiency are desired.

The four series (PA1292, PA1294, PA1393 and PA1494) provide direct current-resistance ranges from 0.38 milliohms to 1.44 milliohms, resulting in minimal power loss ratings of only 0.16W to 2.25W. The inductors' compact design offers flexibility with inductances from 0.4µH to 6.2µH and current ratings from 9A to 73A. An extended operating temperature range of -40 to +125 degrees C ensures product stability with minimum drift throughout the entire range. The inductors provide a maximum energy storage of 2.4mJ with a frequency range of 100kHz to 2MHz.

The new series is currently available in tape-and-reel packaging, with prices starting at $1.45 per unit for two-turn, $1.65 per unit for three-turn and $1.85 for four-turn per unit in quantities of 10,000. Lead time is four to six weeks.
