Trident Microsystems Prevails in Patent Infringement Lawsuit

August 10, 2004 by Jeff Shepard

Trident Microsystems Inc. (Sunnyvale, CA), a leader in semiconductors for digital television, announced that a patent infringement lawsuit was decided on August 5, 2004 in favor of Trident, that Trident did not infringe the NeoMagic patent in question after all.

The suit was originally filed by NeoMagic in 1998 against Trident with regard to United States patent 5,703,806 and decided by the United States Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit, which unanimously upheld a previous summary judgment ruling on this matter by the United States District Court of Delaware issued on May 9, 2003.

"We were confident that the District Court's ruling would be upheld," said Trident CEO Frank Lin. "We feel vindicated that both the District Court and the Federal Circuit Court of Appeals have ruled in our favor."
