Thor Industries Inc. (Jackson Center, OH) announced that its ThunderPower hybrid fuel cell, zero-emissions, 30ft bus was placed into revenue service with Sunline Transit Agency (Thousand Palms, CA). The company claims that this is the only fuel cell bus in revenue service in the world. The bus achieves 7mpg to 11mpg, which is double the mileage of a conventional bus.
"Fuel cells are the only zero-emissions technology and this advanced vehicle program again demonstrates Thor's leadership role in the bus industry. It is a history-making event for us," said Thor Chairman Wade F.B. Thompson. "We are pleased that Congresswomen Mary Bono, a long-time proponent of advanced alternative fuel technologies, drove the bus on its inaugural run."
