Dialog Semiconductor becomes Telechips' chosen partner for the further development of power management solutions.

Dialog Semiconductor becomes Telechips' chosen partner for the further development of power management solutions. Fabless semiconductor company Dialog Semiconductor develops powerful, efficient, and mixed-signal integrated circuits (ICs) for its network of customers within consumer electronics, automotive and industrial end-markets. The company’s wide range of product offerings includes LED drivers, high-performance power switches, custom mixed-signal ICs (ASICs), audio integrated and automotive power management ICs (PMICs), wireless charging technology, switched capacitor direct current (DC)-DC converters, and more.

Telechips is another leading fabless semiconductor company that provides low power and security-focused technologies and solutions for smart homes of the future and intelligent automotive solutions. The company recently announced that Dialog will become Telechips’ preferred power management partner for its new Dolphin+QD (TCC8059), Dolphin 3E (TCC8053) / Dolphin 3M (TCC8050), and Dolphin 3H (TCC8060) platforms.

The Purpose of the Partnership

The desired outcome of this partnership is to expand upon Telechips Dolphin+ automotive platform and subsequently develop the next generation of functionally safe intelligent Infotainment, Cluster, Head Up Display, and Integrated Cockpit Electronic Control Units (ECUs). Telechips plan to incorporate some of Dialog’s latest cutting-edge technology into its platform to enhance its performance. Among Dialog’s technologies to be used include its “Exact Fit” power solution which is constituted by the DA9062-A system PMIC and most recently introduced DA9130-A and DA9131-A sub PMICs. These AEC-Q100 Grade 2 qualified devices are highly integrated and together deliver 21.5 amps of current. Dialog’s solution is expected to fit hand in hand with the Telechips platform, as it easily supports features of Telechips Dolphin 3 platform. These features include Dynamic Voltage Scaling (DVS) (for reduction of system on chip (SoC) power dissipation and thermal footprint), and power saving programmable sleep modes.

Senior Vice President, GM Automotive Business Segment, Dialog, Tom Sandoval, shared his views on the partnership with Telechips in a recent news release: “Our expanding partnership with Telechips is greatly benefiting automotive electronic suppliers as they continue to require high performance, feature rich, SoC platforms at very competitive cost points.  Dialog’s PMIC solutions are uniquely capable of delivering the flexibility, scalability, and auto-grade reliability that Telechips customers require.”

Dialog’s PMIC Technology

Dialog’s PMICs (DA9062-A system PMIC, DA9130-A sub-PMIC, and DA9131-A sub-PMIC) offer improved power and efficiency with a thermally competent system that is able to adapt to a wide temperature range (-40 °C to +105 ºC). The PMICs are scalable, flexible and configurable. System engineers can benefit from built-in configurability engines that allow them to tackle challenges regarding power sequencing, thermal, and system control.

The integration of dynamic voltage control (DVC) allows for more efficient use of power and provides power savings. A user-friendly general user interface (GUI) allows for simplified customizable power management.

“With our customers demanding solutions ranging from entry-level to the high end, we are fortunate to have Dialog’s flexible/scalable power solutions. Telechips delivers differentiated connected car platforms that support a wide variety of cost and performance levels with the Dialog family of PMIC’s,” said Steve Wahl, CEO of Telechips in the same new release

For Dialog, the partnership with Telechips will allow for greater exposure of its innovative products in the power automotive space and provide customers with the best performance regarding effective power management.
