SolarEdge expands in China and names Dr. QT Jiang GM

May 18, 2014 by Jeff Shepard

SolarEdge Technologies, Inc. a global provider of power optimizers, PV inverters, and monitoring systems, announced its expansion into the Chinese solar market. And having identified China as a strategic and growing market, SolarEdge is intensifying its activity in the country with the appointment of Dr. QT Jiang to General Manager of SolarEdge China, the expansion of its offices in Shanghai, and the introduction of dedicated partner support for PV installers.

This development follows last week’s announcement that SolarEdge is now offering a Smart Energy Management solution that includes the Feed-in Limitation feature in Australia. This software can be used to limit export power to the grid. With continually rising electricity prices on one hand and increasing limitations on power export to the grid on the other, the Feed-in Limitation feature allows system owners to install larger PV systems, thus minimizing consumption of power from the grid. Installed SolarEdge inverters can be firmware upgraded with Feed-in Limitation.Dr.

QT Jiang, having held senior positions at Semiconductor and PV companies, brings a wealth of expertise and in-depth knowledge of the Chinese PV market to his role at SolarEdge. He earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Physics from Beijing University and a Ph.D. from Rutgers University. Additionally, he has multiple published professional articles and holds numerous U.S. and Chinese Patents.

Experiencing unprecedented success around the world, the module-level power electronics (MLPE) market reached more than 2GW of cumulative installed capacity in 2013. The global adoption of MLPE is due to increased energy harvest, constraint-free design, cost-efficient maintenance, and improved safety. As part of this success, the PV market has also experienced a transition from central inverters to string inverters in large PV installations. As the leading power optimizer provider and among the top global inverter companies, SolarEdge is in a strategic position to lead the adoption of module-level electronics in the Chinese market.

“I am excited to join SolarEdge, an innovative company with a successful track record, which is poised to be a leading player in the Chinese PV market,” stated Dr. QT Jiang, the newly-appointed General Manager of SolarEdge China. “Module-level power electronics offer the Chinese solar market great promise for advancing its PV installations. As part of the introduction of module-level electronics to China, SolarEdge is committed to provide a dedicated business partnership that offers end-to-end project support.”

Integrated into the SolarEdge inverter firmware, the Feed-in Limitation feature dynamically adjusts PV power production, ensuring that power export to the grid does not exceed the pre-set limit, even during rapid changes in load consumption and PV production. With the Feed-in Limitation feature, there is no need to install any control hardware besides an energy meter. Systems, such as those installed under Ergon Energy’s proposed changes to solar connections, have a faster approval process with power export limits.

“As a leader in PV innovation, SolarEdge is able to quickly address the needs of the PV market,” stated Lior Handelsman, VP Marketing & Product Strategy SolarEdge. “With the new export regulations in Australia, SolarEdge’s Smart Energy Management solution will allow system owners to install larger PV systems, better control their energy production and usage, all while receiving a faster return on investment.”
