The former Semiconductor Components Group (SCG, Phoenix, AZ) of Motorola announced its new corporate identity as ON Semiconductor LLC. SCG was acquired by Texas Pacific Group (TPG, Ft. Worth, TX).

"We are extremely excited about the prospects for this new company," stated TPG Partner David Stanton. "Everyone affiliated with this former division of Motorola, especially customers, employees and suppliers, will have the best of both worlds: the great history of Motorola's support and, now, the focused competitiveness of a new, growing, independent enterprise."

In addition to announcing the new identity, ON President Steve Hanson also announced the appointments of James Thorburn as Senior Vice President and COO, Dario Sacomani as Senior Vice President and CFO, and Bill George as Senior Vice President and Chief Manufacturing and Technology Officer.

"These appointments demonstrate our commitment to form the best management team possible," Hanson stated. "With 84 years combined experience in the semiconductor industry, this group of seasoned leaders provides the vision for the continued success of ON Semiconductor and will take an active role in nurturing its sustained growth."

The company also announced the dedication of an advanced manufacturing and development center in Phoenix. The Component Development Manufacturing Center, to be known as CDMC-West, will focus its operations on advanced TMOS power devices, but is capable of a broad range of advanced semiconductors, according to the firm. It will begin operations with six-inch wafers and 0.35 micron capability.

"The dedication of CDMC-West is important because it completes another step in our low cost manufacturing strategy," commented George. "This manufacturing center is yet another example of how we are increasing our die output by migrating production from four-inch to six-inch wafers and designing in submicron technologies."
