XP Power Debuts MCC Configurable DC-DC Converter

XP Power plc (Sunnyvale, CA), a provider of ac-dc power supplies and dc-dc converter power solutions, debuted an off-the-shelf 400 W dc-dc converter, the MCC, which meets MIL-STD-1275A/B input requirements, MIL-STD-461E EMI specifications, and has MIL-STD-810F shock and vibration integrity. With up to four outputs, and an optional 200 W conditioned 24 V rail, the low-profile power supply meet the needs of military applications, avoiding the costs and delays associated with custom alternatives. Target applications are military vehicle and aircraft systems.

The MCC unit delivers one to four individually regulated outputs between 2 Vdc and 48 Vdc from a nominal 28 Vdc input. It features input-reverse polarity protection and input-output filtering that enables the unit to meet MIL-STD-461E CE102, CS114, CS115, and CS116 for army and aircraft applications. Line and load regulation are within ±1% and there is no minimum load requirement. Each output has its own control loop eliminating any cross regulation issues. In addition, an optional 200 W auxiliary output, which is clamped at 36 Vdc, is available to drive motors, cameras, or other equipment.

Control and signaling includes a global enable or disable function, independent output inhibits, and optional dc OK signals on output voltages above 3 Vdc. A remote-sense function is also provided. Hold-up time can be extended by the use of a user-installed external capacitor. The power supply is typically 75% efficient at full load with 500 Vdc isolation from input to output, input to chassis, and output to chassis.

The MCC operates from -40 °C to +90 °C at the baseplate. The baseplate cooling makes it suitable for use in conduction-cooled applications. The aluminum baseplate is fitted with an IP20-rated safety cover. The MCC has integral over-voltage, over-current, over-temperature, and short-circuit protection. It measures 7.28 in x 6.5 in x 1.08 in (185 mm x 165 mm x 27.5 mm).
