Tyco Electronics Offers flowPHASE 2 and flyerIPM

Tyco Electronics Power Systems Inc. (Dallas, TX) presented both its flowPHASE 2 product family and its flyerIPM integrated power block devices at the recent PowerSystems World show. Extending its power module product portfolio towards higher power, the new flowPHASE 2 product family offers 1,200 V power modules for up to 300 A output current and 60 kW motor power, respectively at 150 percent overload in a 17 mm standard package.

The flowPHASE 2 provides one half bridge for up to 300 A/1,200 V (55 kW motor with 150 percent overload), power terminals and logic interface (connector version only), pin compatibility to the Semikron SEMiX® 2 package, a size and mounting hole position compatible with the Semikron SEMiX® 2 package, and trench IGBT technology. An inverter six pack can be built by either mounting three modules close to each other using the same mounting screws, or placing individually for optimized heat spreading and lower thermal resistance.

The new flyerIPM Series of integrated power blocks is designed for decentralized servo drive applications working in harsh environments. The flyerIPM incorporates a three-phase IGBT inverter for an 8 kW motor (150 percent overload), an opto-isolated driver with fault protection, three-phase current sensing with shunts and an opto-isolated interface, isolated dc voltage sensing, an isolated temperature sensor, an integrated power supply, and a different connector for power and logic interfaces.

The mechanical concept combines a power substrate with the power components and a PCB with the drive and logic section on a common metal base plate for compactness and robustness. A common plastic housing and a high-voltage isolation potting for both power and logic components further increase the product's reliability.
