New Products Sep 10, 2002 by Jeff Shepard

Tyco Electronics Power Systems (Dallas, TX) announced its new QPW050A 50A/3.3V output, dc/dc converter series in a standard quarter-brick size, which offers high efficiency and power density, enabling enterprise, access and optical equipment manufacturers to make cost and space savings by using a quarter-brick format in place of a half-brick.

The QPW050A features a power density of 119W/in³, 93 percent efficiency at 3.3V output, a delivery of 30A at 70 degrees C at

1ms-1 without a baseplate, input voltages ranging from 36Vdc to 75Vdc (48V

nominal), low output voltages from 3.3V to 0.8V, tightly regulated outputs (typically ±1 percent), low ripple and output noise, auto restart after fault shutdown, over-temperature protection, and output over-current and over-voltage protection.

The QPW050A is priced at $89 for 1,000-unit quantities. Samples are available now.
