Supertex Debuts HV301LG Hot-Swap Controller IC

November 08, 2001 by Jeff Shepard

Supertex Inc. (Taiwan) announced the new HV301LG hot-swap controller IC. The HV301LG provides complete control of the power supply connection for systems that are always powered on, but require insertion or removal of cards or modules without power disturbance. The auto-retry feature allows systems to clear simple faults, while continuing to protect the system from total shutdown or fire hazards.

The HV301LG is manufactured on a high-voltage CMOS process and a patented circuit topology. It is meant for supplies from ±10V to ±90V. It has an active high-status output, while its complement, the HV311LG, has an active low-status output.

Applications for the HV301LG include telecommunications, servers and emerging VoIP systems built in large racks. The chip is housed in an industry-standard eight-lead SOIC. Pricing for the HV301LG and HV311LG is $1.95 in 10,000-unit quantities.
