Spectrum Control Intros AC SMARTstart Jr. PDU

New Products Jul 17, 2002 by Jeff Shepard

Spectrum Control (Fairview, PA) introduced its new AC SMARTstart Jr. power distribution unit (PDU) for remote and/or local power management, which is a multi-functional unit designed to direct and manage power to connected file servers and networking equipment. The units provide remote operation control flexibility and allow the user to sequentially power-on or power-off any or all loads over a range of time intervals.

The PDUs monitor input-line voltage, total load current, line frequency and temperature. The total load capacity for a single unit (input and output) is 15A. A dual-input unit capacity is 30A (15A per input group). The ratings are the maximum load current of all receptacles combined. A 15A circuit breaker at the ac input provides overall system protection as two isolated contact inputs monitor solid-state or dry-contact closures used as alarms/flags. The operating temperature rating is from 0 to 45 degrees C; the operating humidity rating is from 0 to 95 percent (non-condensing).

Four unit combinations are available, including 1 x 8 or 2 x 4 (input x output), 120Vac and 1 x 8 or 2 x 4, 240Vac inputs. The dual-input design allows for greater ability in redundancy by sourcing power from two separate sources to drive the loads. In the event power from one source should fail, the outputs from the other source will still function.
