Shindengen to Introduce Industrial Motor Drive Module

August 15, 2013 by Jeff Shepard

Shindengen Electric Manufacturing Co., Ltd. has developed a converter-brake power module for industrial motor drive circuits. The MG020200 is scheduled to enter production in December 2013. Rising of environmental awareness in recent years has resulted in inverter control becoming the primary method of control for industrial motors in a wide variety of fields, and increasing demand for reduced size of control power supplies. In response to these needs, Shindengen has developed a power module for converter-brakes which integrates established power devices (e.g. diodes, IGBTs) into a single package.

The MG020200 features reduced size through modularization; The existing bridge diode + IGBT + diode with associated discrete circuits have been integrated into a single package. In comparison to conventional products, mounting height keeps equivalent to that of others’ IPM product, however mounting area is reduced by approximately 40%.

The MG020200 is in an insulated package with high heat dissipation. As a result it offers dissipation capabilities of θjc = 0.28°C/W and insulation of 2.5kV between terminals and the rear face. In comparison to Shindengen’s conventional packages, thermal resistance is reduced by approximately 44%. Improved thermal dissipation allows size reduction and increased capacity. Converter unit diode is rated for VRSM =800V and Io= 20A). The Brake unit IGET is rated for VCES=600V and Ic= 28A). The MG020200 is compliant with UL94 V-0 and IEC 60950/60065.UL1557certification.
