Powerex Debuts Six/Seven-in-One NF-Series IGBTs

May 02, 2004 by Jeff Shepard

Powerex Inc. (Youngwood, PA) announced its new NF Series IGBTs, in a newly developed six- or seven-in-one packaging, which utilize a fifth-generation carrier stored trench gate bipolar transistor chip. The six/seven-in-one NF Series IGBTs are designed for use in motor drives, uninterruptible power supplies, servo drives and fuel cell inverters.

Compared to competitor devices, the design offers a 13-percent to 25-percent reduction in area, allowing for a small system design. The new package design allows for a simple six-in-one for any three-phase circuit requirement, or a seven-in-one, which includes a brake circuit for motor control applications. It is important to note that the brake circuit is included in the package. The new package is available with screw power terminals and locking connector signal terminals for increased reliability.

The six/seven-in-one NF Series rating options include 600 V from 75 A to 200 A, and 1,200 V from 50 A to 200 A. The 200 A device was added to allow users to up the system rating without changing to a larger-volume package. Sample quantities are now available from stock to eight weeks, with prices ranging from $98 to $265.
