Powerex Debuts New NFH Series IGBT

December 14, 2003 by Jeff Shepard

Powerex Inc. (Youngwood, PA) introduced its new NFH Series IGBTs, which utilize a fifth-generation carrier stored trench gate bipolar transistor (CSTBT) chip. The new NFH Series of devices are available in the low-inductance, U-Series package, and are designed for use in medical power supplies, laser power supplies, welders, induction heating and other high-frequency power supplies.

Each NFH Series IGBT module consists of two IGBT transistors in a half-bridge configuration, with each transistor having a reverse-connected, super-fast, recovery-free wheel diode. All components and interconnects are isolated from the heatsinking baseplate, offering simplified system assembly and thermal management.

The NFH Series rating options include 600V duals from 100A to 600A, and 1,200V duals from 100A to 600A. The on-state loss VCE(sat) versus the turn-off switching loss ESW(off) has been optimized to provide the lowest loss at 35kHZ for hard-switching applications and at 70kHZ for soft-switching applications.

Sample quantities are available from stock to eight weeks at pricing between $44 and $295, depending upon the specific rating required.
