Power-One Intros FNP300 Series AC-DC Front-Ends

New Products Jul 06, 2004 by Jeff Shepard

Power-One Inc. (Camarillo, CA) introduced its new FNP300 Series of ac-dc front-end, 300 W power supplies, which feature a compact footprint, built-in microcontroller and wide-range input operation (85 Vac to 264 Vac) with the capability to ride through short pulses up to 300 Vac.

The FNP300 models are offered with 12 Vdc, 24 Vdc or 48 Vdc outputs rated at 25 A, 12.5 A and 6.25 A, respectively. All models also provide a 12 V at 0.7 A standby output for powering serial communication interfaces and small fans. The onboard microcontroller facilitates I 2 C-compatible bi-directional communications with the host system, including power fail, output good, thermal shutdown and inhibit. In addition, the microcontroller controls the fan speed to increase the mean time between failure and reduce acoustic noise.

Power-factor correction, hot-swap capability, and N+1 redundancy with ORing-diode current sharing are standard features. Protection features include over-voltage, over-current and over-temperature. Overall dimensions, including an integral fan, IEC connector and a blind-mate output connector are 1.65 in x 4 in x 8.5 in (41.9 mm x 101.6 mm x 215.9 mm).

Agency approvals include UL 60950, CSA 60950 (UL/cUL), EN60950 (TUV) and the CCC mark is pending. Pricing for the FNP300 Series is $325 each in quantities of 100. Evaluation units are usually available from stock. Production quantities are typically available in 8 to 10 weeks.
