Miniaturized, Highly-Integrated Micro DC-DC Modules from Cyntec

July 29, 2013 by Jeff Shepard

Cyntec Company, Ltd. a member of the Delta Group of companies has successfully developed a series of miniaturized, highly-integrated, dc-dc modules HU3XX, HU4XX, and HU3ADA12. Cyntec’s micro dc-dc modules are non-isolated converters which are fully integrated the controller chip, choke and I/O capacitors into a single small module. It designed mainly for portable devices, like SSD, Smartphone, Tablet PC, Ultrabook to convert the battery voltage to different voltages for difference ICs.

These micro dc-dc modules enable design engineers to save up to 75% layout space compared to discrete solutions. Current density can be as high as 96A per square inch. The tiny size is also suitable for replacing low efficiency LDO to greatly increase the battery life for portable device applications. All three dc-dc converters in this series operate over an input voltage range of 7.2Vdc to 5.5Vdc and can deliver output voltages from 0.8Vdc to 4.0Vdc.

The HU3XX measures 2.5mm X 2.0mm X 1.0mm and delivers 0.6A of current. The HU4XX measures 2.9mm X 2.3mm X 1.0mm and also delivers 0.6A of current. The larger HU3ADA12 measures 3.5mm X 3.mm X 1.2mm and delivers 1A of current.

Cyntec has been focusing on the technology platform development for miniaturized packaging. Component embedded substrates for 3D packaging to make the module smaller and thinner are the key focus recently. Combined with the company’s world-leading power chock design and manufacturing capability and circuit /thermal design and simulation expertise, Cyntec is able to create state of the art micro dc-dc modules.
