Magnetek Intros FE Series Telecom Power Converter

New Products Feb 11, 2003 by Jeff Shepard

The Power Electronics Group of Magnetek Inc. (Chatsworth, CA) introduced a new 24Vdc to 48Vdc telecom power converter for cellular carrier base stations and fiber and microwave backhaul installations. The new FE Series converter helps to reduce the cost of deployment by allowing both 24Vdc and 48Vdc equipment to operate in the same environment without requiring replacement of the existing 24Vdc power systems.

The FE1D dc/dc converter provides 48Vdc regulated output from a 24Vdc power source. Input voltage ranges from 19Vdc to 32Vdc with output voltages of 48Vdc, 25A, 1,200W. The output is galvanically isolated from the source and chassis so that it may be connected either as a positive or negative output. The converter is 1U high (when mounted horizontally) and is hot-pluggable with current sharing. Up to nine units can be vertically mounted in the 19in subrack to provide the scalability desirable for telecommunications applications.

Evaluation units of the new models are available in two weeks, with production quantities available in four to six weeks ARO. Pricing for the FE1D converter is about $570 in OEM quantities.
