LTC Presents LTC3831-1 Switching DC-DC Controller

April 19, 2004 by Jeff Shepard

Linear Technology Corp. (LTC, Milpitas, CA) introduced its LTC3831-1, a synchronous switching dc-dc controller that guarantees output-voltage regulation of 0.75 V or lower for systems needing precision active bus termination for high-speed logic interface. The LTC3831-1 generates the termination voltage with ±1.6-percent accuracy.

Older ICs are limited to 1.25 V output while the LTC3831-1 is tested and guaranteed for both 0.75 V and 1.25 V. If required, the dc-dc controller can also provide even lower output voltages down to 0.4 V. The LTC3831-1 can sink and source as much as 15 A at up to 90-percent efficiency to satisfy small-to-large DDR/QDR memory banks. The IC drives two external MOSFETs synchronously and eliminates the need for a current-sense resistor, which improves operating efficiency especially at high output currents.

The LTC3831-1 is housed in a 16-lead SSOP package. Pricing starts at $2.90 each for 1,000-piece quantities.
