LTC Offers LTC4260 Hot-Swap Controller
Linear Technology Corp. (LTC, Milpitas, CA) introduced its new LTC4260, a positive high-voltage Hot-Swap™ controller that features an on-chip, eight-bit ADC and I2C compatible interface, which allows for power monitoring by measuring card voltages and currents as well as recording past and present fault conditions. The LTC4260 is suited for high-availability telecom/network equipment, where careful monitoring of the health and integrity of the power distribution network is crucial.
Information in the ADC's registers can be queried via the I2C bus to determine if a card is actually using its allocated power or if it is operating abnormally. An irregular card can be flagged for service, perhaps even before it fails. The LTC4260 offers advanced power monitoring and hot-swap capabilities, combined with a wide input-voltage range of 8.5 V up to 80 V.
Specified over the commercial and industrial temperature ranges, the LTC4260 is available from stock in 24-lead SO, narrow SSOP and 32-lead, 5,mm x 5,mm QFN packages. Pricing begins at $6.50 each in 1,000-piece quantities.
