New Products Aug 21, 2001 by Jeff Shepard

Invensys Powerware Division (Raleigh, NC) announced the debut of the Powerware ConnectUPS-BD and the Powerware ConnectUPS-X, the latest additions to its family of UPS connectivity products.

The ConnectUPS-BD and the ConnectUPS-X allow for easy monitoring, management, and safe shutdown or rebooting of remote UPS-protected servers, routers, hubs and other key internet-working devices. Both the ConnectUPS-X and the ConnectUPS-BD provide a self-contained link between the Powerware UPS and Ethernet LAN/WAN, allowing for remote monitoring of the UPS from the next room, the next building, the next state or the next country, with no additional overhead on any server. In addition, with the use of NetWatch client software, the adapters control automatic shutdown of multiple protected computer systems.

"Network managers need products that give them maximum control of their power environment, and protect their systems from the harmful effects of power irregularities," said Steve Iler, director of software product management, Powerware. "These new Powerware ConnectUPS adapters fill a critical market need to be able to remotely monitor the power environment and gracefully shut down protected computer systems with a mixture of various operating systems."

The ConnectUPS-X adapter is designed to function with all Powerware UPS products equipped with an X-slot, including the Powerware 5125, the Powerware 9125, the Powerware 9330 and the Powerware 9340 (available in Europe). The ConnectUPS-BD adapter was designed to work specifically with the Powerware 9120. Both adapters are available now at a list price starting at $299.
