February 25, 2002 by Jeff Shepard

Hitachi Ltd. (Tokyo, Japan) announced the new HAM49002 1/7in, 110,000-pixel CMOS sensor camera module for use in products such as mobile phones and portable information terminals. The module claims to be the industry's smallest and thinnest CMOS sensor module with dimensions of 7.0mm x 7.6mm x 4.9mm.

The HAM49002 employs high-integration module technology to provide a CMOS sensor and camera signal processing LSI in a single compact package, while offering a high sensitivity of 5lux minimum field luminance. The HAM49002 also offers a low power consumption of 48mW (at 15 frames per second). Typical applications include mobile phones, portable information terminals, PC cameras, door phones, monitoring cameras and toys.

The HAM49002 is sample priced at 5,000 yen in Japan. Sample shipments will begin in May 2002.
