Galaxy Power Debuts Leo Series DC/DC CoolConverters

New Products Mar 08, 2002 by Jeff Shepard

Galaxy Power Inc. (Westborough, MA) introduced its new Leo Series of dc/dc CoolConverters, which deliver up to 120A with an efficiency of as much as 92 percent in a 1.8V, industry-standard three-quarter brick (2.4in x 3.45in x 0.5in). Developed to meet the higher-current, higher-efficiency demands of the telecom and datacom markets for high-end optical networking MUXs, backbone switches and terabit routers, the series is available in 12 models and two versions: open-frame, or with an attached heatsink to meet more critical environments. The 24V and 48V input, single-output converters deliver 1.2V, 1.5V or 1.8V at 120A; 2.5V at 100A; 3.3V at 90A; and 5V at 50A.

Features include a line and load regulation of ±0.25 percent (typical); ±1 percent regulation over line, load and temperature; ripple and noise of 50mV peak-to-peak (maximum, 5V model); and an output set point accuracy of ±0.2 percent. Other standard features include secondary-side current sharing with five-percent accuracy and single-pole transient response. Protection features include circuitry for over-voltage, over-temperature, constant current limiting, under-voltage lockout and delayed lockout for over-input voltage. Control features include three enable signals, negative logic enable, differential remote sensing and a power-good indicator.

Available now in volume, the converters are priced at $219 each in 1,000-unit quantities.
