The demand for reliable, sustainable power management solutions continues to increase across industries. Companies must tackle evolving challenges with innovative products, from ensuring uninterrupted power in critical applications to enabling scalable energy distribution. These demands show the importance of modular design, enhanced monitoring capabilities, and battery technologies to deliver solutions that meet today’s requirements while preparing for future needs.

Eaton has introduced two key innovations to address these pressing challenges. Its lithium-ion battery system optimizes uninterruptible power supply (UPS) performance, offering cost savings and long-term reliability. Meanwhile, the PowerPak 2 EX Power Distribution Unit (PDU) provides data centers with power distribution scalability.

Lithium-Ion UPS Battery Systems

Eaton’s lithium-ion battery system is designed to deliver reliable and efficient power backup for critical applications. Built to connect with the Eaton 9395 and 93PM UPS families, it provides total cost of ownership savings while maintaining 24/7 uptime. The system offers several advantages over traditional lead-acid batteries by leveraging lithium-ion chemistry.

One significant advantage is its compact and lightweight design. It provides up to eight times the cycle life of comparable alternatives, occupies 40% less space, and is 60% lighter. This makes it ideal for installations where space is at a premium. Additionally, its high energy density enables greater energy storage in a smaller footprint, delivering megawatts of power while requiring minimal space.

Beyond its physical advantages, the system's durability and efficiency help reduce long-term costs. Lithium-ion batteries outlast their lead-acid counterparts, needing fewer replacements and enduring more charge cycles. This longevity, with fast charging capabilities and lower cooling needs, minimizes operational downtime and boosts overall performance.

The integrated battery management system operates on internal DC and customer-supplied AC power. It continuously monitors and regulates battery performance, providing real-time diagnostics and balancing battery cells to optimize lifespan and ensure safety. The system can detect and quickly respond to abnormal conditions, protecting against potential failures.

With a 12-year performance guarantee and a 15-year design life, Eaton’s lithium-ion battery system represents a forward-thinking approach to backup power. Its features reduce costs and mitigate risks, positioning it as a reliable choice for critical applications.

PowerPak 2 EX PDU

Eaton’s PDI PowerPak 2 EX (PP2 EX) Power Distribution Unit addresses the growing need for modular and scalable power distribution solutions in medium-sized enterprise data centers. Designed with flexibility and efficiency, the PP2 EX PDU offers power ratings ranging from 300 to 625 kVA, making it suitable for various critical applications. The modular design sets it apart from traditional power distribution solutions. Its compact footprint and configurable breaker options allow operators to save valuable floor space while specifying the unit to their needs. Compartmentalized electrical components and true front access enhance safety and simplify maintenance, ensuring reliable performance in demanding environments.

Energy efficiency is another hallmark of the PP2 EX PDU. Equipped with a data center-grade transformer, the unit complies with DOE 2016 standards, delivering energy savings without compromising performance. UL-recognized 240°C class insulation further extends the PDU’s service life.

The PP2 EX PDU also integrates advanced monitoring capabilities to support modern data center operations. The built-in WaveStar monitoring system enables real-time control of critical loads down to the breaker level. Operators can access detailed performance data through an intuitive touchscreen interface, which supports remote monitoring via Modbus SNMP or TCP/IP. Compatibility with Eaton’s Power Xpert Meter 3000 series and PXR 25 smart circuit breakers further expands configuration options. With short lead times and 24/7 service support, the unit meets the demands of always-on data centers while reducing management overhead.

Driving Efficiency and Reliability in Power Management

Eaton’s latest innovations highlight the company’s strategy to address power management and distribution needs. Together, these products could exemplify how advanced technologies can drive reliability in today’s power systems.
