Dynex Introduces New Family of FRD Modules and New IGBT Module Package

March 17, 2001 by Jeff Shepard

Dynex Power Inc. (Canada) introduced a new family of high-voltage, fast-recover diode (FRD) modules for use in applications including industrial motor drives, power generation, traction and induction heating. The company is also launching a new IGBT module package for traction and motor drives.

The new IGBT module package is suitable for applications requiring up to 3.3 kV for traction auxiliaries and specialist motor drives. The new P package has baseplate dimensions of 140mm x 73mm. The initial IGBT product using the P outline is the Powerline DIM200PHM33 IGBT module. This module is a 200A, 3.3kV half-bridge switch using aluminum nitride substrates mounted on a metal matrix compound baseplate.

The new family of high-voltage FRD modules is suitable for use in rail traction, industrial motor drives, induction heating and power generation. The range includes single- and dual-diodes rated at both 1.8kV and 3.3kV. The 1.8kV variants include single diodes in an L footprint package (106mm x 62mm) with ratings of 300A and 600A, and dual diodes in an F footprint package (130mm x 140mm) with ratings of 600A, 900A and 1,200A per diode. The 3.3kV variants include single diodes on the L footprint (62mm x 106mm) and P footprint (140mm x 73mm), both with ratings of 400A, or dual diodes on an N footprint (130mm x 140mm) with ratings of 400A, 800A and 1,200A per diode.
