DEI Intros PCO-7810 Diode Driver Module

February 03, 2003 by Jeff Shepard

Directed Energy Inc. (DEI, Fort Collins, CO), a wholly owned subsidiary of IXYS Corp. (Santa Clara, CA) introduced the PCO-7810 pulsed laser diode driver, which is designed to provide fast, high-current pulses to drive laser diodes in range finder, LIDAR, atmospheric communications and other applications requiring high-current, nanosecond pulses.

The PCO-7810 uses the switching technology developed for DEI's PCO-7110 Series of laser diode drivers. The PCO-7810 incorporates an internal high-voltage dc power supply to support the high-current output, and an internal trigger generator. The driver operates on 24Vdc support power, providing stand-alone operation. With the supplied heatsink, the PCO-7810-40-4 can operate at pulse-repetition frequencies up to 200kHz at 40A output current.

Two standard models are offered in the PCO-7810 product line, providing pulse currents ranging from 4A to 50A, and pulse widths from 5 nanoseconds to 15 nanoseconds, at frequencies as high as 200kHz. The PCO-7810 is designed to be an original equipment manufacturer style product in which the current pulse may be readily customized to the diode type and application.
