CUI Intros SR Series Force Sensor
CUI Inc. (Beaverton, OR) introduced its new SR Series force sensors that are designed to work in adverse environments where dust and other contaminants are present. The SR Series is suitable for numerous applications, including vending machines, variable switches, industrial robots and any other intermittent force-sensing requirement.
The simple design makes them easy to integrate both mechanically and electrically. The proprietary rubber material used in the sensors is very elastic and conductive and allows fine and continuous degrees of variable resistance. As force is applied to the sensors, the resistance decreases in a near logarithmic fashion from >40 MΩ at no load to <500 MΩ at full mechanical load.
Designed for a nominal load of 3.3 lbs, they can endure up to 6.6 lbs distributed over the face of the sensor. The sensor family features a soft, flexible sensor cover made of butadiene acrylonitrile built up on a stainless steel frame, making it rugged and durable. The series ranges from 15 mm to 18 mm in length, and 4 mm to 6 mm in height.
Pricing starts at $3.79 per unit in 1,000-piece quantities. Availability is five to seven weeks production.
