High Speed Data Connectors and Contacts for Rail and Military Vehicles

May 23, 2019 by Scott McMahan

TT Electronics announced two new products for military and rail vehicles, as well as the industrial and telecommunication markets. The company released the SteadiShield™ connector and the OcTrain™ 10Gb Ethernet contact.

The SteadiShield connector and the OcTrain 10Gb Ethernet contact can be utilized in braking systems, drivers' cabin equipment, trackside and signaling cables, and communications equipment.

SteadiShield is a reverse bayonet connector suitable for designs requiring one connector with multiple ethernet screens. A metalized insert gives instant screen termination within a common ground for improved reliability. This connector provides significant power distribution capabilities and offers 360° screening with no additional components needed. Five multi-pole contact styles are available including coax, twinax, triax, quadrax, and 10GB ethernet (OcTrain).

Steady Shield connectors

Designed for full compatibility with the company's range of established ABMP connectors, OcTrain meets ultra-high speed connection requirements to support heavy data consumption in harsh environments. This contact is suitable for 22AWG and 24AWG wire, CAT 6A and CAT 7 cable, and cable jackets ranging from 4mm to 8.1mm.

These new connectors offer quick disconnect and connect with a minimum of 500 mated cycles.

They are also RoHS and EN45545-2 compliant.

SteadiShield is sealed to IP67; OcTrain can be compatibly sealed to the same standard within the connector.

The company says both are easy to install and they can be further developed to meet end-user requirements including interchangeable contacts, cable assembled versions, and customized designs.

"TT's comprehensive experience within the connectors industry has resulted in innovative products like SteadiShield and OcTrain - solutions that perform brilliantly in harsh environments and make a significant impact on today's rail and military vehicle designs," said Leigh Chapman, Product Manager, TT Electronics. "Implementing these same products in telecom and industrial applications ensures that in even the most extreme conditions, data integrity is maintained from one contact to the next."
