Clare Introduces the CPC1961G AC Power Switch

December 18, 2000 by Jeff Shepard

Clare Inc. (Beverly, MA) introduced the CPC1961G dual-pole ac solid-state power switch. The switch, which comes packaged in an eight-pin DIP, features a load voltage of 600V and a load current rating of 250mA with zero cross-switching capabilities. Clare claims that the CPC1961G's packaging enables the use of smaller boards or the integration of additional functionality on a board. It is also possible to tie the inputs and outputs together to obtain a single 600V, 0.5A ac solid-state switch, or for use as a triac driver.

David Donlin, marketing engineer for Clare's OptoMOS line of solid-state products, commented, “Previous solutions to zero cross-switching capability typically required compromises on either price or reliability. With the CPC1961G, controller designers get the zero cross-switching capabilities they need without compromising cost or reliability."

The CPC1961G is currently available in sample and production quantities. In lots of 50,000, the price is $1.54 per unit, with a lead time of 10 weeks ARO.
