Aimtec Uwraps 2×1-Inch 80 W DC-DC Converters With 4:1 Input Voltage Range
The new 80 W regulated converters address higher-power industrial and distributed power applications by packing a wide 4:1 input window into a space-constrained, industry-standard 2×1-inch footprint.
Aimtec has expanded its low-price (LPZ) modular power supply portfolio with the introduction of the new AM80EW-LPZ series. Sized specifically for applications demanding a balance of higher power limits and strict board space constraints, these regulated DC-DC converters bring an 80 W output and wide 4:1 input voltage capabilities to modern industrial, embedded, and telecom designs.
Traditional low-power converter modules are often physically scaled up significantly to handle power requirements approaching the 80 W threshold. Aimtec’s new AM80EW-LPZ series circumvents this by keeping the package footprint compact, allowing system architects to upgrade their power delivery without overhauling basic packaging and PCB real estate requirements.

By retaining the same fundamental 2×1-inch package class and offering a robust 4:1 input ratio, Aimtec aims to simplify component procurement, reduce bill-of-materials (BOM) complexity, and streamline distributed power architectures across fluctuating input scenarios.
Broad Input Range and Output Flexibility
The standout feature of the AM80EW-LPZ series is its ability to support a broad 4:1 input voltage range. The series is divided into 24 V nominal input models that operate continuously from 9 to 36 VDC, and 48 V nominal input models that cover 18 to 75 VDC. This broad coverage means these modules can easily step down power from common industrial DC buses while weathering voltage drops and transient surges native to heavy industrial equipment and power grid systems.
The series provides extensive output flexibility to meet distinct logic, sensor, and analog rail requirements. The AM80EW-LPZ family offers single-output configurations of 3.3 V, 5 V, 12 V, 15 V, and 24 VDC, delivering up to 80 W of output power on selected models.

With typical conversion efficiencies reaching up to 91 percent, these converters minimize heat dissipation and thermal stress within constrained enclosures. Integration and Board Space Optimization
The series packages this wide-input regulation and high-power density into an industry-standard 2×1-inch housing measuring just 50.8 × 25.4 × 11.8 mm (2.00 × 1.00 × 0.47 inches).
To give engineers additional mechanical integration flexibility for diverse system designs, Aimtec has included multiple configuration options for the AM80EW-LPZ. Beyond standard through-hole PCB mounting, the series can be outfitted with an optional heatsink, as well as screw-terminal and DIN-rail mounting formats.
This makes them highly attractive for dense embedded computing cards, sensor instrumentation, and control cabinets where traditional PCB mounting may not be feasible or where late-stage integration adjustments are required.
Industrial Protection and System Reliability
Equipment operating in harsh industrial environments or distributed power networks requires a high degree of robust electrical protection. Aimtec addresses this by equipping the AM80EW-LPZ series with a comprehensive safety suite, including continuous short-circuit protection with automatic recovery, overcurrent protection, overvoltage protection, and undervoltage lockout to protect the converter from under-voltage stress.
Electrical isolation is similarly robust. The converters feature an input-to-output isolation rating of 1,600 VDC. This galvanic barrier effectively isolates sensitive downstream microcontrollers and logic components from disruptive electrical noise, ground loops, and common-mode transients active on the primary power bus.
Designed for long-term deployment, the line boasts a wide operating temperature range spanning from -40°C to +105°C (subject to specific derating). Reliability figures demonstrate a minimum mean time between failures (MTBF) of 1,000,000 hours, calculated according to MIL-HDBK-217F conditions at 25°C ambient.
Target Applications
With its combination of wide input coverage, regulated outputs, and compact 2x1-inch packaging, Aimtec notes that the new 80 W offering is particularly well-suited for power grid systems, industrial control equipment, telecom and communication systems, instrumentation and measurement devices, and distributed power architectures requiring stable, isolated DC power in space-conscious designs.
