July 22, 2002 by Jeff Shepard

Tyco Electronics Corp. (Harrisburg, PA) announced that the TDI Batteries division has opened its first fully integrated, independent, professional battery pack and cell testing facility in Shanghai, China. The facility will operate as TDI Batteries’ global center for research and development; qualification; and safety testing of battery packs, cells, PCBs and other power components.

The facility expands TDI Batteries global test and qualification capability and capacity by more than 100 percent. An array of environmental chambers, cell and pack cycling channels, and other specialized equipment is housed in over 6,000ft² of dedicated testing space with plans for future expansion.

The new facility is designed for complete in-house component and battery pack approval, typically covering cell, PCB and full product assembly. Testing will include pre-compliance and planned compliance testing in safety, abuse, EMC, environmental reliability, performance and life testing through internal, customer and regulatory specifications and standards.
