Toyota Recalls 14 Hydrogen Fuel Cell Vehicles in Japan

September 06, 2005 by Jeff Shepard

Toyota Motor Corp. (Nagoya, Japan) has recalled 14 of its hydrogen fuel cell hybrid vehicles being leased in Japan and the US after it was discovered that one of them was leaking hydrogen from its fuel tank. A US university leased the older-model hybrid vehicles, and all 14 were recalled in late August to ensure that all possible measures were taken to prevent any malfunctioning. The recall for repairs covers those Toyota fuel cell hybrid vehicles whose lease contracts took effect between 2002 and June 2005. To date, Toyota has had three recalls on fuel cell vehicles.
