Richardson to Distribute Maxwell’s BOOSTCAP® Ultracapacitor Products in North America and China

May 08, 2007 by Jeff Shepard

Richardson Electronics, Ltd. announced that it has joined Maxwell Technologies’ worldwide channel partner network as a distributor of BOOSTCAP® ultracapacitor products and ultracapacitor-based engineered solutions in the United States, Canada, Mexico and China.

"Richardson’s strong sales organization, established industry relationships and specialized engineering, design and manufacturing capabilities make it a highly complementary addition to our existing direct and indirect sales and distribution channel network," said Alain Riedo, Maxwell Senior Vice President. "Richardson’s ability to prototype and produce specialized ultracapacitor-based solutions will add a new dimension to Maxwell’s ultracapacitor technology delivery capabilities, and provide enhanced service and product range for market segments where our products currently have limited penetration."

Frank Guihan, Business Unit Manager of Richardson’s Passive Power Conversion product group, added: "We are very excited to partner with the world leader in ultracapacitor technology and products. Access to the BOOSTCAP® products and Maxwell’s technical expertise gives us more and better tools to produce engineered solutions for our customers."

BOOSTCAP® ultracapacitors are based on an energy storage technology that is well-suited for applications needing repeated bursts of power for fractions of a second to several minutes. Ultracapacitors have much higher energy density than electrolytic capacitors and many times the power density of batteries. They require no maintenance and operate reliably in extreme temperatures.
