Renesas to Open Design Center in Vietnam

Renesas Technology Corp. (San Jose, CA) announed that it is preparing to establish a system LSI design center in Vietnam in order to expand the capacity of its system solution business for mobile technologies, automobiles and PC/audio visual equipment.

The Vietnam-based Renesas Design Vietnam Co. Ltd. (RVC) will design major system LSIs such as the SuperH mobile application processor, gradually expanding its business to include other SOC products and software and increasing its engineers to 200 and 1,000 in fiscal years 2006 and 2010, respectively. Renesas plans to work with local universities and offer a wide variety of career-building training and opportunities in Japan for qualified candidates.

Initially, Renesas said it would invest $4 million, and would employ between 20 and 30 people. The plant is scheduled to open in October.
