Phihong’s PLA Series Switchers Awarded UL and cUL Safety Approvals

News Apr 08, 2007 by Jeff Shepard

Phihong USA announced that the PLA01, PLA02, PLA03 and PLA05 series of low cost single output "green" switchers have been awarded UL and cUL approvals. These switchers, with output power ranging from 1.3 to 5W, are specifically designed to replace linear supplies in the sub-12W range. Until now, this power range was considered the exclusive domain of linear regulated power supplies because of their low output noise, fast transient response and low cost.

New "green" environmental requirements have placed a great deal of pressure on OEMs to reduce off-state power consumption and on-state efficiency. This same regulatory pressure has spawned the Phihong PLA series of low power switchers that aim to replace linears in sub-12W applications.

Phihong PLA external charger/adapters provide single outputs from 5 to 12V, and outputs ranging from 1 to 3W in a significantly smaller package size than many linear power supplies. In addition, each model meets all voluntary and mandatory environmental regulations for no-load current drain and efficiency. The PLA series are priced from $2.95 for 1W models to $3.90 for 5W models in 1000 quantities.
