Lite-On Semiconductor Reports Third-Quarter 2005 Earnings

Lite-On Semiconductor Corp. (Taipei, Taiwan, ROC), a discrete-IC components specialist, reported financial results for the third quarter and nine months ended September 30, 2005. Revenues for the third quarter of 2005 were New Taiwan dollar (NT)$2.9 billion, an increase of 11.6 percent from the third quarter of 2004. Gross profit and margin for the third quarter of 2005 were NT$356.5 million and 12.4 percent, respectively, compared to NT$558.2 million and 21.7 percent in the third quarter of 2004.

Operating income and margin for the third quarter of 2005 were NT$63.6 million and 2.2 percent, respectively, compared to NT$354.8 million and 13.8 percent in the third quarter of 2004. Net income for the third quarter of 2005 was NT$674.0 million, an increase of 94.3 p<ercent, compared to NT$346.8 million for the third quarter of 2004. Third-quarter net income includes a $444 million after tax gain on the sale of 750,000 shares Diodes Inc. stock. Basic earnings per share were NT$1.70, compared to NT$1.07 for the third quarter of 2004.

For the nine months ended September 30, 2005, total revenues were NT$7.1 billion, an increase of 7.1 percent from the comparable period of 2004. Gross profit and margin were NT$1.1 billion and 15.6 percent, respectively, compared to NT$1.4 billion and 21.6 percent in the comparable period of 2004. Operating income and margin were NT$362.2 million and 5.1 percent, respectively, compared to NT$844.4 million and 12.8 percent in the comparable period of 2004. Including the gain on the sale of Diodes Inc. stock, net income was NT$1.0 billion, or NT$2.80 per basic share, compared to NT$797.7 million, or NT$2.44 per basic share, in the first three quarters of 2004.
