Intel Wins Ruling against AMD Investigation Request

October 10, 2004 by Jeff Shepard

A federal judge has denied a request by Advanced Micro Devices Inc. (AMD, Sunnyvale, CA) to order Intel Corp. (Santa Clara, CA) to turn over company documents to the European Commission. The request was part of an investigation by the European Commission of an AMD complaint alleging that Intel violated European Union antitrust laws.

To assist in the investigation, AMD had asked a federal court in 2001 to force Intel to turn over company documents to the European Commission. That was in spite of the fact that lawyers for the European Commission later told the Supreme Court it did not want the records and argued that the US courts shouldn't be involved in the European case, according to the report.
