March 16, 2004 by Jeff Shepard

FuelCell Energy Inc. (FCE, Danbury, CT), a manufacturer of stationary fuel cell power plants for distributed generation, reported that Chief Technology Officer Hans Maru has received the first F.T. Bacon Medal for fuel cell research and deployment. The award was presented on March 9 at a ceremony sponsored by the University of Connecticut's Global Fuel Cell Center. The medal honors the memory and work of the late British scientist F.T. (Tom) Bacon, an early pioneer in the practical applications of fuel cell technology.

Maru is executive vice-president and chief technology officer at FuelCell Energy. He is an internationally recognized expert in the fuel cell field and has been granted 13 patents in this area. The medal was established by the Connecticut Global Fuel Cell Center in conjunction with its first annual International Conference on Fuel Cell Development and Deployment.

"Dr. Maru's accomplishments continue to be recognized by his peers in the worldwide fuel cell community and this award is another in a long list of richly deserved honors," said Jerry Leitman, chairman and CEO of FuelCell Energy. "The customers, employees and shareholders of FuelCell Energy benefit from Hans' technological leadership in bringing fuel cells to the point where they are no longer a mere laboratory curiosity or found only in space ships, but are available for commercial sale today."
