Electrotek Awarded DG Project in NJ Community

October 13, 2002 by Jeff Shepard

Electrotek Concepts (Newark, NJ), a division of WPT Inc. (Edison, NJ), has been awarded a contract by the New Jersey Board of Public Utilities (BPU) for the procurement, installation and evaluation of microturbine technology at the Harvey Cedars Bible Conference Complex on Long Beach Island (LBI), NJ. The project represents the second phase of a project funded by the US Department of Energy (Washington, DC) as part of its mission to promote energy efficiency, advance new and innovative technologies, and reduce the environmental impact of energy use.

The first part of the project took place from 1999 to 2000 when the New Jersey State Energy Office contracted with Electrotek for the development and demonstration of a distributed generation (DG) project on LBI. Electrotek completed a feasibility study that concluded there were significant benefits associated with implementing DG on LBI. Electrotek used its Distco Suite™ modeling tool to conduct a technical and economic analysis of the LBI distribution system, along with the sub-transmission and transmission system, to determine if advanced DG technologies would prove appropriate for improving system reliability and decreasing system cost.
