March 21, 2002 by Jeff Shepard

Axcelis Technologies Inc. (Beverly, MA) announced the grand opening of its China operations in Shanghai, strengthening the company's commitment to China's burgeoning semiconductor industry and expanding the company's Asia-Pacific infrastructure. The new facility gives Axcelis' customers direct access to industry-leading equipment, services and support in a market that is widely expected to be the second largest for semiconductors by 2010.

"Axcelis has held a leadership position in China for the past 20 years through our partnership with Tritek, and we look forward to expanding that role as the market continues to develop and thrive," said Mary Puma, president and CEO of Axcelis. "This new Shanghai facility allows us to give our local customers direct access to the industry's most advanced IC manufacturing equipment and support, building on our existing partnerships in the region to strengthen our leadership position in an increasingly important market."
