APFCT to Commerialize Fuel Cell Scooters in 2007

October 06, 2005 by Jeff Shepard

Asia Pacific Fuel Cell Technologies Ltd. (APFCT, Chunan, Miaoli, Taiwan) announced that it is scheduled to commercialize its fuel cell scooter model in 2007. APFCT has assembled six fourth-generation fuel cell scooter prototypes and is working on a fifth-generation scooter model. The company's fuel cell stacks have completed a 3,700-hour test of non-decay operation, and the safety level of the fuel cell scooter is high with mileage being 50 percent lower than a gasoline-powered scooter.

Dupont, a shareholder in APFCT, has poured about $10 million into fuel cell stack and system development. The Europe Union has reportedly bought a fuel cell prototype from APFCT and hopes that the company will join the HyChain Integration Project to jointly develop hydrogen energy applications for transportation. Honda and Yamaha last year unexpectedly announced a cooperation project to launch Honda's first fuel cell, high-emission, powered two-wheeler model in 2009, which would be a major threat to APFCT.
