Amkor Reports Favorable Verdict in Philips Litigation

December 02, 2004 by Jeff Shepard

Amkor Technology Inc. (Chandler, AZ) has received a favorable jury verdict in its trial with Royal Philips Electronics in which it was sued along with Sumitomo Bakelite Co. for failure of certain semiconductor chips sold by Philips to Maxtor Corp. Following a six-week trial, the jury found that Amkor did not have liability under Philips’ earlier settlement with Maxtor.

"We are pleased that the jury in this case recognized that Amkor was not responsible for the failure of semiconductor chips sold by Philips containing mold compound manufactured by Sumitomo," said Amkor President and COO John Boruch. "The verdict supports the position we have taken since the beginning of this litigation, in that Amkor abided by all industry practices to ensure customer qualification in this mold compound. It is Amkor’s hope that the result in this case will have a positive effect in resolving the remaining claims arising from the Sumitomo mold compound."
