Zetex Debuts ZXCT1030 Current Monitor

September 16, 2004 by Jeff Shepard

Zetex plc (Chadderton, Oldham) debuted its ZXCT1030 current monitor, which helps to improve current-sensing accuracy, increase efficiency and reduce PCB size. The device features an internal reference and comparator with a non-latching output. The ZXCT1030 will serve a wide range of applications, including battery chargers, smart battery packs and dc motor controllers.

The ZXCT1030 features a minimal external component count, supports input voltages from 2.5 V to 20 V, offers an operating bandwidth of 6 MHz, handles switch-mode power supply duties, and has a typical quiescent current rating of 270 µA. A high-side current-monitoring device, the MSOP8 packaged ZXCT1030 converts the voltage created across a sense resistor into a 1% accurate proportional output voltage and avoids adding any resistance in the ground plane. The ZXCT1030’s fixed gain of 10 permits the use of lower value sense resistors, which result in a lower voltage drop across the measurement network.

Pricing for the ZXCT1030 is $0.68 in quantities of 10,000.
