September 18, 2003 by Jeff Shepard

XPiQ Inc. (Holliston, MA), a worldwide manufacturer and supplier of ac/dc and dc/dc power supply products, announced its new ZC8 Series of front-end switchers. The ZC8 is a single-output, 650W to 800W, 1U, front-end switcher designed for distributed power applications.

Ultra-compact in size, the unit measures only 10in x 5in x 1.6in, resulting in a power density up to 10W/in³. A choice of either a hot-swap or chassis-mount version is available with the series. Each version has self-contained cooling fans and a single, hot-pluggable connector. The series has active power-factor correction and accepts universal ac inputs from 85Vac to 264Vac. A selection of three models is available with either a 12Vdc, 24Vdc or 48Vdc output.

All models have international safety approvals, CE Mark LVD, and meet EN61000-3-2, -3 requirements. Standard features with the ZC8 include active current sharing between units; 5V standby; remote sensing; no-load operation; output-voltage adjustment; OR-ing diodes; and over-voltage, over-current and over-temperature protection. Optional features include a 19in rack with three bays available for hot-swap 2+1 redundant or non-redundant operation. An optional I2C output is also available for monitoring operating functions in serial data format.

Pricing for the ZC8 Series is as low as $479 for 1,000 pieces. The series is available in small quantities with production volume available in eight weeks ARO.
