XP Power Adds To Miniature 1-3W DC-DC Converter Series

May 12, 2008 by Jeff Shepard

XP Power announced new additions to its I series of low power isolated dc-dc converters. The series, now comprising 11 families, offers a range of industry standard mounting options including SIP, DIP and DIP24 with single and dual outputs, and now with either regulated or unregulated outputs. Four output power versions are available – 1, 1.5, 2 and 3W.

The converters size, as small as 0.46 x 0.24 x 0.38" (11.68 x 6.1 x 9.65mm) for the 1W models, occupies very little PCB space and allows designers to reduce the size of their end products. The standard pin out configurations are said to make the units a suitable low cost drop-in replacement part, without any need for PCB redesign. All models provide either 1,000 or 3,000Vdc input to output isolation for a period of up to 1 minute, depending on the family. The IH and IN series also has 4,000, 5,200 and 6,000 Vdc isolation options available.

Input voltages covering the nominal values of 3.3, 5, 12, 24 or 48 Vdc± 10% are available, with the IW and IU series offering a wide 2:1 input range, accepting 4.5-9, 9-18, 18-36 or 36-72 Vdc. Single and dual output models are offered. The single output voltages are 3.3, 5, 9, 12, 15 or 24Vdc. Dual outputs provide ±3.3, ±5, ±9, ±12, ±15 or ± 24Vdc.

All units, with the exception of the IS, operate on full power from -40 to + 85°C without derating. The IS model is rated from -25 to + 85°C, with derating above +70°C. All models are able to operate in most environments without the need for additional heat sinking or forced airflow.

With an MTBF in excess of 1 million hours, the I series is said to be a reliable product that will help ensure extended lifetime in end products.

Prices start from $4.55 for the 1W IE models in OEM quantities.
