August 19, 2002 by Jeff Shepard

VPT Inc. (Blacksburg, VA) introduced a new combination EMI filter and transient suppression module that is designed for military uses, including ground-based equipment, weapons systems, armored vehicles and field radio systems. The new DVMN Series of EMI filters is classified as commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) and is available from stock immediately.

The new DVMN Series of EMI Filters features a 28V input; 60dB of minimum attenuation at 500kHz; a soft-start feature to ensure smooth start-up; approximately 99 percent efficiency; under-voltage lockout circuitry for safe operation; output inhibit to shut down downstream converters in case of a prolonged input over-voltage; an output-voltage clamp to 58V maximum; a standard quarter-brick size of 2.410in x 1.450in x 0.465in (6.1214cm x 3.683cm x 1.1811cm); 10A of maximum output current; and a military temperature range of -55 to +100 degrees C.

In a fully potted, rugged case, the DVMN Series meets MIL-STD-704A, B, C and D surge limits; MIL-STD-461C CE03; MIL-STD-461D CE102; and DEF STAN 59-41 and 61-5

EMC requirements. The device also protects against conducted susceptibility specified in MIL-STD-461C, CS01 and CS02, and against voltage spikes specified in MIL-STD-461C CS06.

Pricing starts at $243.28 in quantities of 100. The DVMN Series modules are available immediately from stock.
