Vishay Releases New Series of Low-Profile 1500W Surface-Mount TVS in TO-277A Package

New Products Nov 10, 2009 by Jeff Shepard

Vishay Intertechnology, Inc. announced a new series of 1500W surface-mount TransZorb® transient voltage suppressors (TVS) with an industry low profile of 1.1 mm. The SMPC series offers breakdown voltages from 6.7 to 42.4V and clamping capability from 10.0 to 58.1V.

Featuring the eSMP™ TO-277A package, the TVS devices are said to offer a 27% smaller footprint than devices in the traditional SMC package. The SMPC series provides a peak forward surge current of 200 A and a temperature range of – 55 to + 150°C.

The TVS devices are designed to protect sensitive equipment in telecom and general applications from voltage transients induced by inductive load switching in accordance to IEC61000-4-4 and IEC61000-4-5, and electrostatic discharge (ESD) in accordance to IEC61000-4-2.

Well suited for automated placement, the SMPC series offers low incremental surge resistance and fast response time. The devices meet MSL Level 1 standards, per J-STD-020C, are compliant to RoHS directive 2002/95/EC and WEEE 2002/96/EC, and are halogen-free in accordance with IEC 61249-2-21.

Samples and production quantities of the new SMPC series are available now, with lead times of six weeks for large orders. Pricing for U.S. delivery is $0.12 per piece.
