Vanguard RVN Series of rectifiers

November 14, 1999 by Jeff Shepard

Unipower Corp. (Coral Springs, FL) recently introduced the Unipower Telecom's Vanguard RVN Series of rectifiers. The rectifiers are claimed to provide up to 120A at 24Vdc or 60A at 48Vdc. The 19-inch shelf holds up to three hot-swappable rectifier modules each producing up to 40A at 24Vdc or 20A at 48Vdc. Each module is self-cooled by two fans and has an Oring diode to permit quick replacement while operating. The rectifiers feature a wide-range output voltage adjustment of 20 to 29Vdc or 40 to 58Vdc and can be adjusted either remotely or by means of a front panel potentiometer. The power density of the modules is 6.1W/in.cu. Unipower also claims efficiency is 87 percent. The units are designed with a wide input range of 85 to 265Vac and input power factor correction resulting in total harmonic distortion of less than five percent. The units also feature a Class B EMI input filter as standard. The rectifiers comply with NEBS and ETSI and meet UL, CSA and EN safety standards. Other features of the Vanguard rectifier series include high-reliability hot-swap connectors, over-voltage and over-temperature protection, remote sensing, LED indicators for ac power fail and dc power good, and a five-segment, LED bar graph to display output current. Control and monitoring signals include ac power fail, dc power good, thermal alarm, analog current monitor and remote enable. The rectifier modules have single-wire, active load sharing to equalize output currents. Pricing for the Vanguard RVN Series rectifier modules starts at $650 each and the shelves are priced at $520 each.
