Tyco Electronics Unveils Rayvoss TVSS

New Products Nov 19, 2001 by Jeff Shepard

Tyco Electronics Power Systems (Dallas, TX) announced the new Rayvoss transient-voltage surge suppressor (TVSS). The Rayvoss TVSS guarantees protection from ac surges and requires zero maintenance, with a low clamping voltage and in-line installation.

The Rayvoss TVSS replaces traditional parallel metal-oxide varistor (MOV) and silicon avalanche diode (SAD) technology with Strikesorb modules. Strikesorb modules contain a single, large MOV encased inside a cylindrical aluminum housing that prevents the MOV from disintegrating and eliminates the device's ability to catch fire or explode. Strikesorb modules can withstand 200,000A surges and remain completely functional.

"Tyco's full line of energy system products equip network operators with the highest level of quality available," said James Saunders, product marketing manager for Tyco Electronics Power Systems' power and accessories division. "The Rayvoss TVSS' innovative design guarantees unparalleled reliability and protection, even in the most extreme environments. Customers will benefit from its ease of operation and maintenance-free design."

The Rayvoss TVSS has an expected lifetime of over 20 years, as tested by IEC and IEEE specifications. In addition, the surge suppressor is UL 1449, 2nd edition-listed. The Rayvoss TVSS is now available.
